VSAT system can operate using various industry frequencies such as C-Band, Ku-Band, Ka-Band and X-Band. However, most commercial VSAT networks use the C-Band and Ku-Band frequencies.

C-Band frequency range from 3.6 - 4.2 GHz for receive and 5.8 – 6.4 GHz for transmit. Ku-Band ranges from 10.9 – 12.7 GHz receive and 13.7 – 14.5 GHz for transmit.

C-band with its lower frequency allows operation regardless of weather conditions, especially rain effect and most suitable for tropical regions with heavy rainfall. However, C-Band VSAT requires a larger antenna, starting from 1.8 meter and above to operate.

Ku-Band higher frequency is affected by weather conditions such as rainfall, and therefore provides less reliability in tropical regions. The good thing, Ku-Band VSAT system requires a much smaller antenna to operate, with antenna as small 0.67 meter.
